Following our recent November meeting Bevis Musk gave his talk which he had summarised as " An accidental career in Motorsport". It proved to be a very interesting and entertaining talk with lots of stories about his career. Having started his academic studies in agriculture his interests in " all things" related to cars and in particular motorsport took over. He told many stories about his experiences in vintage and classic car racing, World Rally cars, British Touring cars, Le Mans and Formula 1. His car ownership history was of interest in itself including Alvis, Saab, and of course Porsche. He moved on from Porsche and BMW race and rallying programmes and became involved with Prodrive and Subaru and of course Colin McRea and " the rest is history ". Without wishing to name drop other legendary names were mentioned such as Stig Blomqvist and Ayrton Senna. Amongst other career achievements Bevis set up hi own motorsport company and explained how the cars and technologies developed. Throughout his talk he circulated lots of historic photos and also some helpful visual aids. In more recent years his work as a structural composite engineer has come to the fore as he has developed high performance composite wheels using carbon fibre in the automobile, aerospace and military vehicles industries.![]()
Two hours was nowhere near enough time to try and include all of Bevis' career. Everyone was amazed at how much he had managed to achieve and thoroughly enjoyed an entertaining talk.
